Zsnes Windows wil not start w/o mouse plugged in
« on: November 05, 2010, 07:49:57 pm »
Hey, has anyone run into this problem? I have Zsnes running on my system (windows xp, I think zsnes 1.51) and when I start zsnes windows, it will not work unless I have a mouse plugged in. If I try to start it without the mouse plugged in, I get an error about needing directx 8.0 or above to run. The thing is, I have directx 9 installed.

I couldn't find any this problem on the znes forums, and I figured that here would be the best place to find people who have tried to run zsnes windows without a mouse on their system. I have tried dos zsnes, but it does not get the resolutions (on top of a few other problems).

Anyone aware of this issue?  :dunno

Thanks!

not heard of this issue, so I guess you should post about this one in the zsnes forum, since I guess they are not aware of this bug.

Its propenty need a mouse to avoid that issue, since I guess its trying to use DirectInput, but rejected. For now you can not just use a cheapest mouse found and just put that inside your cabinet?

Not sure what the problem is, I run zsnes1.51 without a mouse and without problems.

Check your zsnes.cfg and ensure that the GUI is switched off and all references to 'mouse' are configured to not utilise it.

I have now posted the issue over on the zsnes forums, I'm not sure if you would call it a bug, since a mouse is pretty standard. no matter what, I'll see if they have any insight.

I like the cheap mouse idea, very practical. Unfortunately, this is for a side project of mine, and it is not not using a cabinet. I'm making a TV plug and play system. I will probably post it up here soon.  :)  I tried tricking the computer to think a mouse was plugged in by installing a virtual mouse app. It didn't work. Back to the drawing board.

No luck. I think you are right that the problem is that it is referencing the mouse somewhere. I just can't figure out where. I went to the config, and disabled anything referencing a mouse I could find. I also tried adding the -j and -m to the startup command on the frontend. -j disables the mouse, and -m disables the GUI. It still errors out without a mouse.

Try installing an older version, there's not a lot of change, other than feature-creep, in the later versions of ZSnes
