I really wish that there was a PC version of these games.  I'd love to be able to play these on my cabinet. :(

I don't think so... I'm pretty sure by PSN they mean PS3.

I missed Pacman: CE but don't plan on missing out on this one.

Interesting..... judging by that 5 sec clip towards the end it looks like they may be adding a pacmania view option.  Which would be awesome.  Imho the most underrated pacman game ever.

Don't worry, you made the right decision!  CE is still a fantastic game, you'll definitely get your money's worth.  Especially if you have a modded controller to connect to a proper 4-way joystick to play it with. I find the d-pad on the xbox controllers terrible...

I really enjoyed Pacmania, I especially love the isometric view of the artwork! Though I'm I'm a fan of most pac-man variants, not including the Pac-man world games...*shudder*

There was a pixelated looking view as well. It looks like there are a few different "skins" they'll have to choose from. Sweet!

Yup.. came out for the 360... but I'll have to wait until the 23rd for the PSN version.   :banghead:

I have a PS3 in my showcase style machine so I was really looking forward to the PS3 version.  Maybe I'll download the trial version of the 360 to get a taste.

Loved Pac-Man C.E - Will give this a try tonight.

The D-Pad is awful but I honestly find the analogue stick 100% ok to play with in C.E, they have it tuned just right . . . still, a good 4 way would be awesome.

I still play C.E a lot, I'm not bothered about achievements but I unlocked them all in this game without even looking at the requirements :D

I downloaded the demo just to try it out.

I definately don't hate it, but I'm not sure if it's better than ce, or if they've just started tacking on random crap in a desperate attempt to make the game more interesting.

Now pacman has bombs which allow you to knock all pursuing ghosts back to the ghost pen.  Also when you are about to get eaten the game slows, allowing you to dodge the ghost.  These two things make the game a lot easier than any pacman game I can remember.

Also the other major element is the addition of "lots of ghosts" and the addition of sleeping ghosts.  There can now be dozens of ghosts on screen at once.  The classic ghost chasing patterns found in ce (and the original pacman for that matter) appear to be gone.  Now you have the red ghost and sleeping ghosts.  Sleeping ghosts stand still but awaken when you pass by, they follow you rather aggressively.  The red ghost's movement is normal.  The chasing ghosts are slightly slower than you though, so their only real purpose is to prevent back-tracking and for the player to get an obscene bonus score when chomping ghosts as you'll have several dozen lined up in a row.

Again, I'll refrain judgment for now as I need to play it more, but it seems like they might have over-complicated the formula.

I too just discovered Pac Man CE, and I gotta say it's pretty damn addictive. But maybe a little too fast for me, my eyes just get lost on screen and go blurry. I guess I just need to start playing before I have that second beer.

hmm that's an interesting idea. I don't mind the analogue stick, but i will say it's messed me up a couple of time during play, maybe I just need to get used to it. Would a 4way work as well though? I thought the cornering sparks help compensate for the full range of the stick movement to help hit your turns.

This could be a neat enhancing feature, it's a fine line when you try to update a classic by adding new play elements. In my opinion Pacman CE takes the original formula and just makes it even more exciting to play & look at.
Much like my favorite retro-remakes Tempest 2000 and Typhoon 2001. I'll have to try the DX'd version and see.

I'm sure this has probably been posted before, but does anyone know yet if this is a hoax or if it's real?

I'd love to get my hands on this.

It's real, but it's machinama.  In other words they used a nes emulator to make the video but the game was never released nor would it be playable if they had done so.

I had intended to make a pacman ce clone for the pc for the 30th anniversary, but I never got the time.  Actually any competant video game programmer could make it quite easy.  The original pacman has been broken down so much that there are pages and pages of info on how the game works and how the ghost ai works, right down to the last pixel.  Of course, the visuals are another matter, but the visuals don't matter that much for pacman anyway.

I've bought the game now and it is utterly fantastic :) The topic of it being too easy seems to pop up a lot but once you get into chasing high scores (Either your own or your mates) it is incredibly good addictive fun. There is a penalty for using bombs as you slow the game speed down so it is a good deterrent for using them.

I think it is just incredibly well designed and executed. The gameplay is fast and super satisfying. If you don't like Pac-Man or high score chasing then it probably isn't for you but I encourage everyone to give it a try.

I gotta agree with Edwards80. I got Pac man CE just days before DX came out, and while CE is the perfect competitive update to the original Pacman game, DX has a fresh new twist that makes it just so much more fun to play. The wife and I have been taking turns playing it all weekend unlocking achievements, beating each others high scores, and just enjoying the fast paced gameplay. I gotta say this is possibly my favorite of all the Pacman variants so far! Yes, if I had one gripe, it would be that the music is sort of generic dated sounding techno music, but it's not offensively bad, it's just background music (right?). I wish they could have done something cool with so many great 8-bit music artists abound, but oh well. Visually, it really is the perfect blend of retro style with modern fast action gameplay. This game is highly addictive, super fun to play, and quite challenging if you want your scores to make it on to the leaderboards. If you've got an Xbox360, and you enjoy Pacman at all, this one is not to be missed.  Let's cross our fingers in hopes that they'll release this one on PC someday- would be so great to play on a cabinet.

With all the great content on XBLA, sometimes I get to thinking that I should build an Xbox 360 cab.

But then I'd need so many different controllers.

Got this on PS3 yesterday.

It's awesome!

I'm looking for a dedicated 4-way PS3 joystick for it right now.

Any suggestions?

Looks awesome!  Ordered my PS3 (though have to wait until Christmas to play it).  This is definitely the first game I'm downloading!   I only played CE on the Droid and it was pretty enjoyable (despite crappy controls which is the phone's fault, not the game's).

Someone bought me a points card for xmas (yeah I know... why?) so I bought this game with it.

I must say, like 90% of the demos out there, the demo makes this game look far worse than it actually is.

I really like the game now that I own the full retail version.  The mazes are drastically different than CE and the different modes (including the very fun >1 min time modes) keep it fresh.  They've also taken advantage of the different visual styles to the fullest, giving each maze a different default visual style.  There is a 2600 inspired style that really cracked me up.  The very "flash-like" style of the new arcade vs game is also included as a visual style.

I will say this for it.... much like the demo, the game is waaay too easy.  When I can unlock all the achievements in under a week on a pacman game it's a pretty darn easy pacman game.  Also it disappoints me a little that with all these visual styles they included they didn't think to make a ms pacman and junior pacman skin.... the differences in the characters are pretty much cosmetic, so you would think they would throw em in.

I prefer the more basic pacman CE gameplay as it feels truer to the spirit of pacman, BUT DX has more replay value, doesn't feel as furstrating and includes the original pacman CE maze basically untouched.

So I say buy it.

Because then they can't sell you a Ms. Pac Man CE DX game.   ;D  And no one's cared about Jr. Pac Man since 1983.   ever.

Actually, a better (non-smart-assy) answer on the Jr. Pac Man: he's not officially part of the Pac-Man canon in Namco's eyes.   It was a character made by Midway without Namco's authorization (and yes it led to pretty much bad blood between the two, actually a termination in their distribution partnership).   Ms. Pac-Man was also unauthorized, but Namco pretty much adopted it since it was more popular than their own Super Pac-Man.

Absolutely not true!  The midway versions of these characters aren't adknowledged, but junior, baby and professor pac were officially ret-conned back into the pacman family upon the release of the pac-man world games.  Absolutely they aren't as popular as pac-man but at the very least ms. pac-man has consistently out-sold pac-man since her creation... considering it's the 30th anniversary, they should have all been included.
