hentarex polo 25 installed but now what ?
« on: October 31, 2010, 03:27:48 pm »
Im new to the arcade hobby and ive done my first monitor swap, I have a MK1 cab it had a 19inch monitor and was able to get a 25inch hentarex polo for 65$ and did the swap, well i did a lot of reading on how to do this but i turned it on and all looks OK I guess but i cant get the screen to stop spinning up and sideways even adjusting the pots and the screen seems to stretch sideways ..than ill adjust for that and it just about fixes and than it starts again no matter what i do it wont hold or look right ...maybe i need to replace the pots ? sorry if i didn't give enough information ..but this is new to me. any help would be great

make sure you have the connections into the video signal plug as follows
sync/not used/video ground/blue/green/red

i think either you have the sync and video ground reversed or you have connected sync to pin 2 which is vert sync(not used)

strange,if it were a wrong cable then it would not sync even for a few seconds

have you tried a different game board yet?

I dont have a working jamma board... I have one that says to hold in the test button, and i do that and it says that the rom is bad or somthing like that.

to me it looks like a game board fault
the picture is fine in the first photo so that proves all your connections are correct
there is graphic breakup and a double image in a few of the photos and the final photo has lost sync

if you could lay your hands on a very cheap test board then at least you could prove the monitor is ok

another thing to check would be the voltages to the jamma connector and a long shot make sure the marquee light is not flickering wildly

well i just played it again with my kids and i could see that the picture would kinda bounce if that means anything ...its not to bad and when i start up the machine the tube makes a wine sound and the tube sounds like a little crackle sound for a long time ..kinda like a plasma sphere but only in the tube not the board.

any cheap multimeter will do for checking cab voltages

download a jamma pinout as a reference to your meter reading points

set you meter on 20vdc max range

black probe to pin 1
red probe to pin 4

should get around 5.00 to 5.20 volts DC

black probe to pin 1
red probe to pin 6

should get around 11.05 to 12.50 volts DC

If all that checks out fine then when the picture starts to breakdown first manipulate the video signal cable along all its connectors

I think all checks out as you said and when the screen went funny it still read the same ..... 1and4 is 5.07 and 1 and 6 was 12.80 but i didn't understand manipulating the video signal cable along all its connectors

well thats proved you power is fine

by manipulating i mean wiggle the wires-just to prove there is not a bad connection

you can check for bad solder joints on the monitor by tapping the metal heat  shield of the monitor chassis with an insulated tool of some kind(not too hard though)

still without another game board to test its difficult to prove the exact problem

Im going to look over my connections tomorrow just to make sure I have what it needs to stay stable ..but I dont know if that will do me any good .....I plugged that wire back in on the pic that i showed and all was stable and didnt move and was stable ...more than any other time ...played if for about 30 min ...played 6 matches and some 2 player with my kids ...but when one of my kids started to bang hard on the buttons I think that it started to make the screen jump a little and then it went back to being weird...but the game was normal and playable but the screen was out of sync. Im stumped

well I went to get the vid and I was lifting the glass out of the front so you could see all of the tube and the glass kinda hit the tube and it went normal .... so that tells me that something is wrong with the monitor ? or fly back ? or the connection to the fly back or that cable that can kill me that connect to the tube ?

you have a either a bad solder joint on the chassis, bad connection on the remote cable or video lead or a pot right on the edge of adjustment

still does not explain some of the screen shots you posted as they show graphic errors

I dont know if this is off topic but it may be related ...when I flipped a few dip switches one for blood one for low blows and the other for attraction sounds and started to play with my kids it started to make weird sounds and some would be just a little off like a delay ...ive just now reverted the sound back to see if its normal but its to late to check it out.. kids are in bed and the lady is watching TV. lol

sound issues were common with copy boards
a photo of the game board will show whether its original or not.

OK so I guess my problem that I see now is that from the right upper corner it starts from that side to the left bottom corner the screen goes from bigger to smaller .... I see it also when I put in test mode and see the squares on the screen ..I have a few pots in the back of the neck but I don't think that will fix the problem. I could guessing but would rather ask...thanks guys

I see a few that I could turn but not sure witch one, and I haven't said yet but thanks for your help with this install and problem, I'm learning so much with your help and what I have read and watched about fixing arcade monitors, I know that I have a long ways to go till I get a good grasp of what some of you guys know.  THANKS  :)
