yet another 'critique my ---smurfy--- marquee design' thread

A graphic artist I ain't.  Not much for grammar either apparently.  That last sentence was even worse...

The long separated piece at the bottom part of the graphic is an additional back-lit stripe that sits just above the cp.

Insert knife, and twist.  I'll cry myself to sleep tonight again regardless  :P

Purely a matter of personal taste. I don't like any of them. I would rather see something that uses clealy defined lines akin to any given vector art. Also I would rather have more solid backgrounds with less going on in the picture overall. I see the marquee as functioning to identify and sell a brand identity. Most branding I can think of is graphically more minimal.

Luckily none of this matters so long as you like it.

Edit: the gems one is growing on me. But still lacks something.

Yeah... I would go with the less is more mantra. Your marquees are too "busy" and I find my eyes have trouble decided where to look.

I would lean towards the Digital Gems one. Lose the gems and it has this nice 70's kind of look that I like.

But once again, this is your cab, not ours. With so many different marquees, I would guess you're still undecided and nothing feels quite "right." This should be a red flag for you to keep experimenting until you hit upon something that does feel right.

For example. The current cab I'm working on lacks a marquee (sort of). I struggled with standard marquee designs looking at dozens upon dozens of marquees to try and find one that felt right. Nothing did. When I finally decided to drop the marquee entirely, the rest of the cab started coming together "correctly". I may change the design again, but at least the cab feels right so far and I am satisfied with the current construction progress. My point is, keep searching until you find something that feels right for you. I did and I finally found that nothing is what worked. :)

8bit planet is the least ---smurfy---, but I still dont like it that much, I just hate it the least.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

'Digital Gems' was inspired by the Vanguard marquee.  I just hate the name -makes me think of 'digital exam' (see pic).  Gross.

Agreed that minimalist vector art is more traditional, and I want to keep a 70's/80's wood paneling type theme.

I'm playing around with the digital gems logo...

I love "Resurrection"!!  It has a 'last supper' feel to it, which would make Pac-Man the Jesus figure.  Win!
