Hantarex Polo 25 " horizontal control
« on: October 18, 2010, 08:53:56 am »
Just purchased an UMK3 in a MK 2 and the monitor is a Hantarex Polo 25". The screen looks great except for the sides that run out of the viewing area. The picture is about 1-2" bigger than what can be viewed on the monitor. I cannot find horizontal control to shrink the image for the life of me. Is this a cap kit issue? Other than this nuisance the screen looks great!

Any help is appreciated! Search and google have got me no where.

the horizontal size is on the remote board which is either on the back of the chassis or on an extension lead in the coin door or under the control panel

if you have no control over H.size using the pot then check the following
T118-BDX53A
T117-BC5588
Possibly D134/D135

The controls for the monitor are under the cp. None of the pots adjust h size. Are those other items caps and are they labeled on the board?

the first 2 are transistors and second 2 are diodes-they are labelled on the board
the most likely culprit is T118,its fixed by a clip next to the vertical frame ic
you will need good soldering skills and understanding of how to remove a chassis safely

I think you could just adjust the horizontal width coil, slightly behind and to the left of the flyback transformer, if looking from the back of the monitor.  Most take a hex head tool (plastic if you have one), but a metal Allen wrench could be used (adjust a little at a time while powered off), and you have to determine the correct size to fit the opening in the piece of ferrite inside the coil.  I actually think these Polos (if I remember mine correctly) have simply a slot that a straight head screwdriver can fit (again preferably plastic like a TV alignment tool), but you can use metal and adjust a little at a time one way or the other while the power is off then power back on to see the results.  You must BE CAREFUL not to force the tool or you will crack that piece of ferrite in the coil and ruin it requiring replacement of the width coil.

One other word of caution: as MKFan4Life alluded, do NOT adjust the width coil using a metal tool while the monitor is on.  If you use a metal tool (which is not recommended anyway as it increases the chances of cracking the ferrite), you MUST do it with the power off.

Do you have a pic available? I can't find anything remotely close to what you described.

Sorry I didn't reply... thought someone would get to you before I had time to adequately answer the question.

Here are some pics of Polos with the width coil circled.  You need a (preferably) plastic tv alignment tool to properly adjust it without risk of damaging the fragile ferrite piece inside.  Most of the time it's a hex head, but I think some of these Polos have a slotted head, like a standard screwdriver might fit.

Either way, if you MUST use a metal Allen tool or screwdriver (not recommended), then only adjust it a very small amount at a time in one direction or the other with the power to the chassis OFF, and DON'T force the tool AT ALL or you will be replacing the entire coil with a new one unless you have another piece of ferrite that fits the coil perfectly, which would be doubtful.  You can then power the monitor on and check the results and repeat this process until you obtain the width you need.  (You SHOULD be able to manage adjustment of the coil WITHOUT removing it from the monitor frame if you're careful, but if doing it with it powered on, take care to not touch any hot or high-voltage parts.)

Yup thats the one.  I doubt I will be able to get to it without removing the monitor which I don't want to do. Looks like I will have to live with missing an inch of screen on the sides  :(
