2 x Orion Arcade Monitor issues
« on: October 15, 2010, 10:29:22 pm »
Hi, I just picked up 2 Aussie lowboy machines in "non working condition"

Only paid $100, so figured it was a good deal.

I noticed on both monitor PCB's that there was a fuse missing, I replaced and powered on and the monitor came on.. partially.

There was some hissing etc and that funky burning electrical smell, is this normal for a something that has been in storage for ages? could it be caused by dust? The picture came up of the game (asterix) but was kind of wobbly.

The second monitor turns on two when i put in the fuse, but it sparked where the narrow part of the monitor has like a cap on it, so I turned it off. What could be the cause of this, is there anything I can do.

I can provide video's if anyone thinks they can help. I guess my questions are a tad ambiguous, any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

the first monitor sounds like just a damp crt and should be left for 24 hours in a dry environment-or use an air compressor to dry out the anode area

the second sounds like the crt is broken at the point where the deflection coil meets the crt

on the first one, the source of the "burning smell" should be located . likely source is the flyback .
IF its an ozone smell , there is high voltage leakage occuring - sometimes best located in the dark

with the 2nd one , was it a brief snap ( static)  or  continueous ?
a loose gnd strap on the crt can cause arcing between tube and mount
and losing the vacuum would allow arcing in the gun assembly...
