Rom sorting, looking for some expert opinions on this...
« on: October 13, 2010, 11:25:17 am »
I had a MAME machine built a few years ago and had it close 90% to how I wanted it.  Long story short, had to redo everything because of hardware failures, and the fact the cabinet fell on me and destroyed into millions of pieces (sorry no pics lol).  I think I used Rom Lister and something else but cant remember.

Here is my issue.

I need a program (or multiple) that gets rid or certain roms (adult, mahjong, etc.) but allows me more flexibility.  For example, in Rom Lister, I can get rid of sports as a group, but I would like to leave some types of sports, but get rid of others.  I don't care for soccer or football or basketball (minus a few specific games), but I would like to leave other types in, like baseball, wrestling, etc.  Also, I am using Maximus Arcade if this matters.

Thanks for the help!

I see no reason why you can't use romlister to do that.
if there is text describing the things you want to filter on (baseball, wrestling) in catver.ini, then the data is filterable with romlister.  You will have to do some advanced searches and type some things in by hand instead of using the category checkboxes though, so you will have to get your hands a little dirty.  Check the advanced search tutorials on the wiki.

Something along the lines of a "& !(football | soccer | basketball)" or the inverse of that and "& (baseball | wrestling)"  You'd have to check the specifics of how catver has those genres of games listed.
