Analog panel finished
« on: August 11, 2003, 08:15:53 pm »
I am now done with panel number 2 for my 6 panel cabinet. This is an analog panel with a Microsoft Sidewinder 3D pro installed.

The biggest pain with this thing was that I had to snip the wires leading up inside the stick. They were soldered on in the upper part of the stick, and that led to a connector on the main PCB. That connector was removable, but it didn't fit up the shaft, so the removability didn't help.

The only real stick modification made was to disable the throttle mechanism, and to wire the 4 buttons on the base up to microswitch buttons.

If anyone else uses this stick in the future, I reccommend a metal panel. It was a real pain using this on a wooden one.

The buttons on the panel are just placeholders until my shipment of black buttons comes in.

Looking great!
I'm not sure I like how the overlay looks on this one though...
How will it be held down to keep it from being too "wavy"?

Still, looking great!
I'm not a freak!...
Oh wait...
Yes I am...

It is wavy because I made the mistake of trying to make it go around the front. Tommorrow I am going to cut that part off, and then glue down the rest of it. It should be fine then. When I did my 4-way panel a few hours later, I just cut it to fit the top, and then it stayed perfectly flat.
