A Wells-Gardner K7000 is a CGA (standard resolution) monitor and I am pretty sure that a Hantarex Polo is an EGA (medium resolution) monitor.

Obviously this matters greatly depending on the game you are using it in.

There are CGA Polos as well.
But yes, knowing what it is you plan on running on this monitor might be a factor in resolution choice. (MAME?)

I'd still go with the K7000.  ;)

I did not know that there are CGA POLO monitors around. I thought they were all EGA.

How can you tell one from the other?

There's a Hantarex Polo 25" CGA in my MK2... it has an awesome picture after I capped it!  Totally awesome!  Was TERRIBLE when I bought the cab.  Then I jumped in and did my very first cap kit I ever tried and WHAM!  I was like DANNNNNNG!  This thing has an AWESOME picture!  Very bright and clear!  I also have a K7000 series, but honestly, I have yet to put the chassis on a good tube so I can't comment on it.  Everyone has always said the Hantarex Polo's have very delicate circuit boards and are easy to mess up when working on them, but my unskilled hands managed an easy cap kit install with good results.  That said, you do hear "K7000" every time there's a monitor discussion, so they are very popular.

That still doesn't answer my question...How do you tell a CGA Polo from an EGA Polo?

It has less LATEX on it?  Lol!

Nah, I would imagine simply the model number.  For instance, in the manual that covers mine, it lists 3 monitors and their characteristics.  The NT-2700, a standard resolution monitor.  The NT-2701 (like in my Gauntlet Legends cab), a medium resolution monitor.  And, the NT-2702, a VGA monitor.

Or you could just connect a standard resolution game board to it and if it works, it's likely a standard resolution monitor (unless it's one of the auto-switching medium res monitors), and then you could connect a medium resolution game board to it and if you get a display BAM!  You know it's an EGA (medium res) auto-switching monitor.  If only the medium resolution game board works, then KAPOW!  you know it's strictly a medium resolution monitor.

Other than that, I don't know how to tell.

How do you know that your MK2 has a CGA POLO in it?  I have never seen an auto-switching Polo monitor before nor have I ever heard of one.

Where is the all-knowing monitor man Ken Layton when you need him?

Or how about Mr. Hantarex Polo himself grantspain?

I guess I just assumed no one would put a medium resolution monitor in that standard res game cabinet, and I think that's the original monitor, although I didn't receive any books with that particular cabinet when I bought it.  It simply says POLO on the back of the label on the neckboard.

But, even though I was simply trying to say how one might tell if they had a standard or medium res monitor in general (guess from what I have read you could do a reading on the yoke since they are supposed to be different), here are a couple of interesting links about Polo/2's and Polostars... (I know, I know, it's not a plain POLO, but anyways...)

http://www.hantarex.be/BtoB/products/applications/video-games-monitors/index.htm

http://www.hantarex.be/BtoB/products/applications/video-games-monitors/polostar.htm

And a bit of info from a post the fellow you spoke of left last year in a topic on here:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=98766.0#lastPost

Now I will let the Google Search Engine rest, as I could not have answered at all without it... admittedly. :P

(now... off I go to try to fire up my extra Gauntlet Dark Legacy board set up in medium res mode on my Polo to find out for sure... LOL!!!!)

EDITED:
Oh, and here's your CGA Polo:

I know I am stubborn AND stupid but none of these links are for the good old first generation POLO monitor.  A POLO/2 does not count.

I STILL need to see an CGA POLO of the first generation variety.  Sorry.

I bet your MK2 monitor is an EGA POLO.

Hey, if it is, I'll jump for joy!  I have a Gauntlet Legends cabinet here that I would love to know I have an EGA backup for!   Lol!

EDIT:
Sent Bob Robert's an email about the original Polo and he stated the following:

"Polos are 15.7K std res & med res is 25k. You can't use a med res bd with a Polo unless you use some sort of adaptor."

This is what he replied when I asked him if he knew which they were, and if I could safely try a medium res game board with the Polo in my MK2 cabinet.

Hey, I'm a newbie and I know it with this monitor stuff, but if I have performed something successfully or have the same piece of hardware as someone on here, I'm going to chime in.  I have not seen enough monitor models to tell anyone much about a line of monitors unless I Google it, but I am pretty good at Googling, lol!  If I am ever dead wrong, by all means, correct me quickly.  It'll save me more embarrassment in the end, hehe!
