Nocd patch for SFIV and online play
« on: September 21, 2010, 04:48:08 pm »
Hello.

I own the retail PC version of SFIV but I hate having to put the disc on the drive in my cab.
Does anyone know if those nocd patches commonly available on the web can get you banned from playing online?

Thanks.

I don't know if you can get banned but if you patch SF4LAUNCHER.EXE there is a risk. I would say it is better to use a Mini-Image that you mount, so you don't have to touch your installation files.

I guess next time it may be better for you to buy your games on steam or D2D.

I seem to recall once that some protection schemes will not let you launch a game if it's not on a physical drive but I haven't looked that much into it.  I'll check into the mini-image.

I don't think a mini-image will work since SFIV uses SecuRom and it will not launch the game if something like Daemon tools is enabled:

You have apparently to use Y.A.S.U v1.6 to avoid the black listing. I didn't try it, but the mini image method seems to work for SFIV. It is though a lot more complicated than the no cd.

Thank you!

That looks promising and I'm willing to go through additional complications if it will be safer than the nocd patch.

Doing it this way seems safer because, if it doesn't work, the game will simply not start.  If I use the nocd patch, the only way to try it is to go online and see what happens, which could get me banned forever (I don't think there are second chances there).
