Original Ms Pac-Man Restoration
« on: September 20, 2010, 10:42:50 am »
Hey guys, I picked up a Ms. Pacman this weekend and I am very excited to get to work on it. It is in very good shape, everything is in working order and it is clean and solid. The paint is scuffed up a bit though and there is a nasty overlay on the front kicker. Other than a cleaning inside and out and a new paint job this baby will be just like new.

I have a couple of questions before I get started. I really want to keep and make this as original as possible.
1. What do I need to check to make sure this is a legit original Ms. Pacman? (I still need to take inside photos when I have some light to work with)

2. It looks as if everything is intact and original, except it is missing the coin bucket. Can someone please point me in the direction of some good pictures of a complete Ms. Pacman inside and out that I can use as a reference? Like I mentioned earlier, I want to make it like new from 1981!

3. I belive most of my time will be spent on the stenciling of the original art. If anyone knows were I can buy the stencils from please let me know.

4. I've noticed that the Ms. Pacman Marquess look different from machine to machine. I thought I remember them having a lot more Pink than mine does?

Thanks for any help you can provide, and if you see anything that doesn't look right or original please let me know

A few more pics, the bezel and cpo look to be in excellent shape and original as well.

Nasty overlay? What do you mean? It looks to be in great condition. Those repro overlay's aren't cheap.

Your marquee is faded from UV light. So yes, it should have deep pink just like in the bezel.

NO MORE!!

Wow, that cabinet looks to be in great shape!  From the pics, it doesn't look like you'll need to do too much work to get this back to form.
Great find!

I wouldn't bother re-stenciling, the artwork looks to be in good shape. Just get some paint for touch-ups and you should be solid. But if you're stuck on wanting to stencil, I would go all the way with this and do some wood fixing around the edges, especially the bottom.  Bondo or Wood filler should work well there.

Acquiring these stencils may prove to be a bit more difficult as Namco has been putting the legal choke-hold on anyone trying to reproduce them. You might be able to find someone over at klov that supplies them though. Good luck!

I think he is referring to the front kick plate.  Looks like a repro decal has been put on the front.
