"Retro Style" cab with no keyboard drawer
« on: August 09, 2003, 12:26:27 pm »
Here is my rendition of a retro cab....just had to build something like this.  It has a Wells Gardner 19" SVGA monitor with a pretty decent computer.  The yellow laminate was used out of frustration with the "NORM"...I wanted something different.  I think the controls work well (I just finished it today so I only got to test it for a little while) but I might switch the 4-way joystick and the topfire around since I am a righty.  The marquee was one that I had laying around and will be changed.  I will also add side-art to it as well.  All in all it was the one of the most fun cabs to build so far for me.  It is compact and has a metal control panel that is on a piano hinge so no need to ever take it off.  I put Pivot-pro on there so that I can view the monitor normally.  For some reason the games will not fill the screen unless I turn it off...something that I have to figure out.

Oh! and NO KEYBOARD DRAWER! or coin buttons...that's for you BYOAC hard-cores! ;)

(although it does have a wireless keyboard just in case)

Anyway let me know what you think...with any improvements you think it needs.

I love the overall look of it. Vintage looking cabs are my favorite. I'd choose more of a colour theme if I were you. It looks very haphazard. Blue, yellow, green and red. Martha Stuart will be turning over in her jail cell! Yellow and blue works... I would have went: yellow cab, blue marquee, yellow buttons, blue trackball, blue spinner, and maybe a custom blue balltop. That would be beautiful.

It's not bad, just a little busy.
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

I agree with Brax on this one-- Nice Design, but too many colors. You know-- a can of high-quality spray paint goes a long way.... j/k

I'm going to change the marquee and add side-art.  The color scheme is a matter of what spare parts I had laying around.  I do have a blue trackball though.  I will change the trackball to blue (backlit) change the spinner top to blue (I'm pretty sure I have one) and then change the ball top to blue and see what it looks like.  Thanks for the advice!

Why was this moved from Announcements over to here? This clearly belongs there. I can understand if you want people to see it, and I don't mean to rag on you, but... that's what Announcements is for...

Just doing what it says below...thought that is what I was supposed to do...no?  Although, I guess it doesn't sound much like a new product intro....still deciding on that part of it myself.

In order to settle a question that comes up occasionally...

Please note that vendors with new products (or improved products) are WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED to post about it here on the main forum.  This site has always been slightly misnamed, as commercial pre-made products have always been a part of the site, albeit not as big as the build your own part.
