Sorry for the random question....
« on: September 10, 2010, 11:03:36 am »
I am "upgrading" my cabinet now.

Going from the Xbox/X-arcade/TV set up to a PC/Ipac/LCD monitior(20") set up.

My question is on mounting the LCD. It doesn't have a stand(Craigslist find for $40). It has the four hole mounts in the back, so I am assuming I can craft a wooden frame and just bolt it to that??

Also, how do I make it so the monitor will turn on without having to hit buttons? My cab is all run off one power strip, and it's not a fancy "select always on" plug type.

Is it a PC monitor? It should turn on and off automatically when it has a video signal if it is.

so even if all the power is killed, it will come back on? Not just standby?

It's a PC monitor, yes

Most do. And it's very easy to test

That said, I do have an older 15" LCD here on my bench that does NOT have a "return to last state" when power is reapplied.

Alright, so I finally powered the thing up, and it's got some bad clouding in the middle  :badmood:

I ran some YouTube videos of arcade games(which I know will look worse than MAME) and it wasn't noticeable in most games as most games have black or dark or busy enough backgrounds to hide it.

I also went to Vnes and played a couple games, and on lighter screens it's really obvious.

I got this screen from Craigslist for $40, and now I know why. The guy who sold it to me said he had a car adapter to show me that it worked. Of course when I met him this morning, he said he forgot it, but gave me his number. I know I shouldn't have bought it untested, but I tend to trust people(one of my faults) It's a 20" Dell, so it's a nice big size.

My question is this, should I bug the guy to take it back(if it's even a legit number) or just live with it? Like I said, it's not noticeable during most games, but I know on the front end, and lighter games it will be annoying.

Goes to show, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

i have a power inverter in my van that i would use for just such an occasion. You never know nowadays. people are scammers all over.

you may try twisting the monitor (opposite corners) slightly to see if it changes, if it does there maybe something behind the monitor pushing on it. (bent bracket or the screws holding the panel down might be too tight.)

google "LCD mura"
