Earl comes to visit Labor Day Weekend
« on: August 31, 2010, 07:04:06 pm »
Earl, that bastard, better not screw up our plans to travel to the cottage for the year's last long summer weekend. If he keeps us in MA, I'm thinking a hurricane party might be in order. Games while the power holds, slip and slides, ooze ball...whatever the weather allows. And of course, some serious libations...

What are your plans if you're in the range of Earl's mid life crisis?

I hope the power goes out for a good 4 hours. We haven't had a good outage in more than a year. I love the occasional loss of power, sorta like camping except you don't need bug spray. This "love" is only expressed when the outage isn't too inconvenient tho, of course. Also, since I live so far north I have not had to see much hurricane damage occur in my life. I am sure my plans would be much different if I lived in the south east...
--- Yes I AM doing this on purpose, and yes I DO realize it is pissing you off.

---If my computers were cats, my place would look like an old widows house, with half of the cats having obvious health problems

Near the center of SC here-- Every hurricane that passes nearby is immediately compared to Hurricane Hugo from 1989. This far inland no one expects a Category 5.

I'm sure we'll see some rain from it, but I'm not too worried about it's trajectory at the moment. My sister in Wilmington, NC will probably see more.

Half of the people you meet are below average.

I hear ya. Last summer we were camping near Point Judith RI when Hurricane Bill was expected to come ashore. Fortunately he stayed far off the coast. Frickin' awesome surf that weekend though. Check out this picture. That's not a trick of perspective. The waves behind those kids where 10-15' high:

Crap, he's moving closer to us now. We've not pulled the trigger either way yet, but when I went out this morning and my truck had a flat tire...I'm starting to feel like someone is trying to tell me something.

Ha! Ya, those people always make me laugh.

I do store some water though, but only b/c we're on a well and toilets are essential

Otherwise...it's a party tonight!

Just put the giant slip-and-slide down for the kids to play on in the rain.  AKA - big ass tarp.

Pictures are overrated anyway.
