PS2 in cab for light gun games
« on: August 30, 2010, 03:37:03 pm »
Hey guys I am thinking about putting my fat ps2 in my cab for light gun games and maybe ddr.  But I have a couple of questions:

1.Do ps1 light gun games work on the ps2?

2. I was thinking about getting this lightgun http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-2-Freeshot-Lightblaster-Gun/dp/B0002OJQ6S/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1283196593&sr=8-4 (the bad ratings are just idiots who bought it for a  :censored: lcd)  It's got normal, guncon1, and goncun2 modes  can I play games that use other light guns (like the konami justifier, for area 51) if the guns in normal mode?

3. Does this seem like a good solution?  I don't wanna shell out too much cash for a act labs and the ps2 and ps1 have some sweet light gun games.

Hey tykenfitz,

Yes, PS1 light gun games work on the PS2. I'm not 100% sure of what that Freeshot gun considers as "normal" mode, but my guns also have a normal mode, which works with Konami games, but not well. I have several guns from different makers, and none of them are accurate with Konami games unfortunately.

I'd say if that Freeshot gun is accurate, it'd be a good solution. I myself prefer to have rumble or recoil in my gun, but I feel that accuracy is the most important factor.

I do feel that if you're really into light gun games, you'd really be missing out on a lot of great shooting games in Mame that are not available on the PS2 like Police Trainer, Sharpshooter, Bang!, hunting games and more. I myself feel that a pc light gun is a great investment. You can always look into making your guncon compatible w/the pc, but I haven't tried it myself.

Best of luck!

LCD TopGuns are PS2 compatible and work great in a cabinet.

I just won an eBay auction for 2 madcatz blasters and Point Blank 1+2 for Playstation for $20.

Can't wait to get blastin' in Point Blank, that was the arcade game I played the most.

I've already got Time Crisis 3 and Vampire Night.

What other games should I get? I'm thinking TC 1+2+Crisis Zone, Lethal Enforcers, and Area 51.

Are there any other games that I need?

i just installed a ps2 in my showcase cabinet, just for gun games and i am happy i did.  I am using two Namco guncon 2 guns, i cannot comment on the other guns.  i haven't tried any original playstation gun games, but from what i have read, they will work just fine, as long as you are using the older style guns (non usb)  so if you want to be able to play both, you may need to swap guns. (time crisis 3 doesnt seem to work with the original guncon guns)

i have the following gun games for my ps2:

Endgame
Time Crisis 2
Time Crisis 3
Time Crisis: Crisis Zone
Vampire Night

and they are all pretty fun (endgame is kinda lame though).  TC2 is probably my favorite.   i have two original guncons if i ever decide to get some ps1 games, but i doubt that i will.

if you are doing this, make sure you add a reload pedal, it makes things alot more fun.  you can pick up a foot switch pretty cheap online, and interface it using an old controller.  i just finished doing this tonight and it made time crisis 2 alot more fun to play

Yea, I bought the Madkatz guns that work with ps2 and ps1 games.  I have this s*** light gun (broke trigger switch), so I tried interfacing my Rock Band pedal into it which worked.

So, when my guns get here I'm definatly going to wire the pedals on there.

Ugh, I have a pair of those guns.  They're fairly durable but not terribly comfortable.  I only keep them around because they are fairly durable and support 'Normal' mode to run Area 51 on PS1.

cool cab man.

I can't wait to put the 25" screen in my cab and try out TC and Point Black on a bigger screen.

You have plans for another gun? The split screen on TC makes it way to small but I like head to head play of Point blank, it would be sweet at a party or somethin, i'm really glad i bought it with my guns.
