Marquees in MAMEWAH?
« on: August 08, 2003, 02:15:21 am »
Hello again,

I'm on a mamewah posting frenzy here tonight LOL   Just trying to get all the little config things worked out here, and I promise I'll stop badgering you guys  :)

Ok.. so far, I have MAMEWAH v0.954b setup, and working great.  When specifying the location of my mame executable, mamewah automatically grabs the SNAP directory location as well -- and now my screen shots do appear. Woo hoo!

Now, I was trying to figure out how to make my control panels, and marquee files to show up.  So I opened up EMU1.CFG in a text editor, and looked at some values.  Here's what I have:

Artwork #1 Image Path = D:\MAME\SNAP
Artwork #2 Image Path =
Artwork #3 Image Path =
Artwork #4 Image Path =

The first one MAMEWAH automatically sets up when you choose the .EXE location, and it finds the screen shots just fine.  But the Artwork #2 and so on... i'm a bit unsure as to which one is which.

I tried modifying the "Artwork #2" in the config file to read:

Artwork #2 Image Path =D:\MAME\CPANELS

-- And sure enough, I have control panels now in MAMEWAH.  Now the Marquees.  I figured I would try to modify "Artwork #3" to read

Artwork #3 Image Path =D:\MAME\MARQUEES

However, no luck with this one.  I'm not sure if the Artwork #'s themselves correspond to what type of artwork you need to define?  Meaning, does Artwork #2 ALWAYS have to be Control Panels, and so on?

No, the artwork numbers to not have to correspond to a certain type.

I suggest making sure your marquee directory is marquees and not marquee. Mine is marquee.

I double-checked... and my marquees directory is in fact marquees -- with the "S".  But to even make it dummy-proof for myself, I copied the path right from my explorer window location bar while I was inside the marquees directory.  Then pasted it into the config file ---- surprisingly, still nothing.

Within my D:\mame\marquees directory, I have all my marquee files in *.png format.  All named correctly to correspond to the ROMS -- example --- Donkey Kong --- rom name: dkong.zip  marquee name: dkong.png   And so on for many more marquee files.  I'm assuming this is the correct way to have them setup.

Any other ideas/suggestions?

Wait a minute. Do you actually have an artwork number 3 in the MAMEWAH skin you are using? I believe the default skin does not have one.

Try changing artwork #1 to your marquees to test this out.

A small tip - if you enter the path within MAMEWAH itself (rather than by editing the .CFG file), MAMEWAH will remove any non-existant path entered to indicate something is wrong.

paigeoliver is right tho, make sure you havae Artwork #3 visible in your layout (ie open the .LAY with the Layout Designer).

I changed Artwork #1 to my marquees directory path, and saved.  Then fired up mamewah -- and now in the main image location, where i would normally see the screen captures, I'm seeing marquees.  Not sure if that's what I'm supposed to be seeing or not?

I'm currently using the MrSalty classic 800x600 layout, along with MAMEWAH v0.954b.  I'm using the Layout specified for versions greater than 0.953.

Unfortunately, I can't open the layout file up in the layout editor... because the layout editor doesn't install with v0.954b of mamewah.

But within the MrSalty layout, there are clearly 3 image locations -- one would be for the marquee, one is for the screen cap, and one for the cpanels.

Still at a loss as to how I can make the marquees appear in the layout....

It does install - just the shortcut is missing.  Open it from the MAMEWAH installation folder... :)

Thanks for the head's up on that one Minwah... I didn't even notice the executable for the layout designer in the program directory.

Well, after opening the MrSalty classic layout up in the layout designer, I noticed that the three image spaces are as follows:

TOP SPACE -- Main Logo
MIDDLE SPACE -- Artwork Image #1
BOTTOM SPACE -- Artwork Image #2

So, I guess I was wrong in assuming the top image space was for marquee images.  I guess it's just for the logo.png file.

Yep, you just need to hide the main logo, and add Artwork #3 in it's place if you want to use marquees.  :)
