Awesome Pick (Galaga)
« on: August 24, 2010, 07:03:02 am »
Posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a cocktail cabinet, preferably just the cabinet to work on my next project. I got a reply from a lady who picked this up as part of a real estate deal. When she turned it on, just the monitor came on and it was making noise in the cabinet. She replied to me and asked for $50 for it since it did not work and appeared to have some slight water damage on one bottom edge. I quickly paid and had it running 100% within 30 mins of getting it into my shop. (Cleaned some chip legs and edge connectors and reflowed some solder joints.) Finally, I get a good score!

Right now, I have completely sanded the old vinyl paper off and have it down to the finished wood and I am working on bondo'ing the bottom edges to square off. I have several leads on wood grain vinyl and a formica like finish to re-establish the 80s look.

Yes the glass clips will be stripped, sanded and painted. So will the grills and coin door. The glass, regretfully will have to be replaced, due to heavy/many scratches.

Amazing find! Man, all that for $50? Can't wait to see the details of your refinish.
