  • Bees! Oh bother!
I know this software area's more about MAME guys, but about two weeks ago, I lost everything on my firefox browser. I can't see the toolbar, I can't find my bookmarks, and now I'm stuck with this stupid  :censored: bing and Norton search engines.  Those are the only search bars I see.  Oh, yeah, and for reasons unknown to me, now I can't do a system restore (doubt that'd help) either.

Any ideas / solutions for the laptop? I've tried reinstalling firefox, thinking that would help, but it has not.

One thing you could try is starting firefox in safe mode.  To do this go to Start <-- Run <-- and type
"firefox -safe-mode". When you start it in safe mode you should be given an option window that will allow you to restore default search and toolbars and also disable all add-ons.  Hope this helps.

Bing is also installed as part of the 'Live' toolbars and programs, so if you have Live installed, you might get Bing too.

Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

Nbk - thank you! Worked like a charm!  I still have a "bing" toolbar up there; however, my mozilla search bar is back, as are my forward / backward arrows, bookmarks, and general toolbar. Thanks again!

Oh, I so hate toolbars.  To the point that I focus on my 'File/Edit/etc.' line, right-click, and deselect ANYTHING I don't want up there.  Yahoo, Bing, ZoneAlarm I'm looking at you.

I manage the bandwidth here at my job, and I'm constantly removing toolbars from my client's PCs. The one that pissed me off the most was the most recent Java Update -- the installer came bundled with the 'Bing' toolbar. GRRRRRR   :badmood:

Some of these toolbars employ 'beacons' to call home, and they're clogging up my total bandwidth here at work. Sure, at home you might not notice a few bytes floating back and forth between ZoneAlarm and you, but when you have over 100 workstations averaging 2-3 beacons, it gets to be a real drain. Stupid toolbars.

One of my sales people had so many toolbars installed that it literally took 90 seconds for IE to launch. NINETY SECONDS -- you ever count that out while waiting for something on a computer? It's an eternity. He had a full 1/3 of his screen at the top basically rendered useless b/c of the toolbars installed. There wasn't even enough real estate on the screen to load a webpage properly -- you had to scroll all the time. I removed every one of the toolbars, and his internet performance sped up tremendously. He thanked me profusely over and over. He was like, "I can SEE my webmail inbox again! I don't have scroll down just to see my messages!"

Do you really need to know what temperature it is at your house all day, or what the Red Sox score is, or the latest World news, or who's logged into Yahoo Messenger, Skype, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc????

Okay, I'm off my soapbox now.

:soapbox:

Im glad that worked.  To get rid of the Bing toolbar you might want to try going to Tools then to Add ons in firefox and seeing if you can delete it from there or like smalltownguy said deleting the windows "live" add on.
