Joystick cpo mounting

Best solution?
Drill thru cpo and use carriage bolts? or use t-nuts. However, my cpo is only 5/8" thick.
Suggestions?

using t-nuts would be more preferable over the direct bolt option , but it would require you to countersink the t-nut somewhat so you can lay some filler over it and hide it.

or you can use threaded inserts . these are brass lugs that fit into a required space and are screwed into position.
they can then take a bolt , but the depth is limited. its a good option but you need to buy bolts which are the perfect size and length.

personally, if i was in your shoes , i'd go with the threaded inserts. it'd be less mess and probably a little more expensive overall but its the easier option. hope this helps

I am COMPLETELY impressed with McFeeley's.  If for no other reason, then they recognize the functional superiority of Robertson head screws.  Many (most?) Americans completely deny them, preferring rather to stick with flat head (awful) or Phillip's head (easily stripped) screws.  McFeeley's, I salute you!

Use a screw and post.  You have to route out a little tiny bit for the post - like 1/16" or less.  They work awesome.

I like the idea of threaded inserts.  #6 screws with a 32 thread count. However, the cpo is only 5/8" mdf.
Maybe a trial run with both to see what may work.

my only suggestion would be to use 3/4" mdf instead , but if its already set up and covered in vinyl
or plexi , i would say to try and use the threaded inserts.
using bolts on the plexi can lead to cracks when installing them , or , you can also crack the plexi
when drilling the holes for them.
i know the odds are against the plexi cracking , but if it was me i'd check the threaded inserts out first.
if it works, you wont have ugly bolts popping through your cp.

I used 5/8 as well, and TNuts worked fine. I recessed for the nut on top, as well as the bottom for the joystick, and it's still very stable.
