Anyone know where to get a list of classic games?
« on: August 07, 2003, 12:54:47 am »
Im looking for a list of Classic games  (read: golden age) for MAME, so I can use it in GameLauncher.

Anyone know if there is a website/person maintaining such a rom list?

TIA

use sortinfo to make a list with games from 78-85.

classic is a bit personal...will vary from person to person...i have a list with the games that i consider have to be in a golden age arcade...if you want...

Mame32 has a custom list of "classics."  I would not recommend using mame32, but you could download it and check out their classiscs.

I think the term "classics" is too general a term to ask for a ready made list.  I judge classic not, by the year, but by how well the game has stood the test of time.

In justins list, for example, I wouldn't consider 1943 a classic as it sucked compared to the first two.  However I would consider both Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat II classics due to their extreme popularity and lasting power.  I think you need to tell us what you mean by "classic" before anyone can give a good answer.

  • But then again, that's just one man's opinion.

Howard's right.  What he doesn't consider classic (1943), I do.  What he considers classics (SF2 and MK2), I don't.  The latter two games are too new, showing you what I judge to be classic is based on year.

But, Justin, the list of games you posted seems to fit the bill perfectly.  I can't think of a single game missing, nor one on there that isn't a classic.  Nice find!
