Filmstrip Projectors

Has anyone ever looked into adding a working filmstrip projector (8mm, 16mm, other) and movies in your home?

I am sure it is very impractical, limited movies, old equipment, etc, but I think there is something neat about the idea.

A quick google search did not show a good filmstrip forum / discussion group.

I have my dad's old 8mm that we use for reel to reel stuff that they used to get like Abbot and Castello meet Frankenstein and some old home movies but nothing set up permanently.   Sounds like fun!

I have home movies of me as a child on 8mm...  I would like to get a projector to view them again, but first, I think I want to get them transferred to DVD or something, just in case.

You use a film transfer box for that or just film the projected image on the wall with your DV camera.

The Transfer box is just a box with a mirror in it to take the projected image of the film and reflect it into the lens of the DV camera.  Anyone that does videography for weddings and the like should be able to do it.

Looking at Ebay, I saw many lots of various personal home movies.  I don't know, but there is something a little creepy about selling your home movies to strangers.

Hmm, went and looked on ebay, and sure enough, lots of 8mm home movies.  That's just weird.

Better setups will allow you to adjust the projector to 15 fps instead of 18 fps -- if it'll let you go that slow -- syncs better with the 30 fps in the NTSC standard -- helps to avoid the rolling black lines.

Of course, Aunt Ethel gets hit by that wave on the beach just a bit slower...

Funny enough my opa had some movies etc on film i know we have sopme popeye and some old hollywood movies on film somewhere under the house

I was going to mod a slide carousel with a small TFT and make a projector, but I could not do anything about the excessive heat.

I could attempt this instead:



Then I could convert my old film stock and manipulate it on this touch table.

Thats how I did all of mine, then used Gordian Knot to clean up and colour correct the footage.

Worked well !
