Question about repairing and modding an X-Box 360
« on: August 04, 2010, 06:02:16 pm »
Hello from Maine :)

I was given a "broken" X-box 360, because I am known to solder things and fix computers.

So I don't have a clue about X-Box 360's and I was hoping to talk with someone who had already fixed and modded one.

I am under the impression that X-Box 360's are super easy to brick - The Red Rings of Death! I am hoping to avoid that :)

This X-Box 360 console is said to have a bad optical drive (that won't read disks easily) and the 10 GB hard drive was apparently taken from it.

Here are my objectives :

* I'd like to mod this console so it runs very cool, adding 80mm fans @ 5v (or similar) in key locations. I am under the impression that these typically run very hot.

* I'd like to mod it so it can play backups.

* If possible I'd like to mod it so it plays the games off a hard drive rather than optical drive, if this is possible I don't even need to replace the optical drive.

* If possible I'd like to make it brick-proof :)

* I don't intend to play it on the internet (if that matters)

I'd like it if you would give me a clue of where to start and what to look at first :)

Thanks!
Craig

p.s. Here are the numbers from the back, that probably matters :)

you wanna go to xbox-scene.com forums for guides.

you can add case fans anywhere you want. they work just like pc case fans.

figure out what drive you have, extract the key/original firmware, spoof a new drive(liteon or benq recommended) and flash it with newest ixtreme mod so you can play backups from disc.

you have to jtag the system in order to play games from hard drive. first you gotta figure out if your system is jtaggable. Your kernel must be 2.0.7371.0 or lower. check your dashboard version and do NOT update if you happen to have old dash.

and you obviously need to buy some stuff via like sata card, jtagging material, prob kit if you have a liteon drive, etc etc..

OR you can always skip all that and have me do the dirtay work :burgerking:

Thank you Snaake :)

I'll give it a try and if I get hopelessly lost I'll mail the console to you :)

Snaake's prices are excellent and I'd recommend anyone with modding needs to ask him for a quote :)

Hey spystyle,

You might want to ask SNAAKE if he's doing XBR JTAG's or the newer FreeBoot JTAG's.
