Mame menus are unreadable?
« on: July 31, 2010, 10:56:32 pm »
I am building a new mame box and for some reason, when I hit "TAB", my mame menus are not legible.  They are all pixelated and distorted.  Anyone know why this is?  Also, I get sound errors for every game, what do I need in order to get the sound to work?  Thanks in advance!

The menu is distorted probably because you have direct draw enabled, do you have a gfx card? if so turn on direct3D and it should be nice and crisp and clear.

as for sound errors, you may have to explain more, is it skipping/jumping or are you receiving some kind of error msg?

The sound error is "Error creating directsound 88780078".  I have included a picture of the wierd menus in Mame.  I have tried d3d and directdraw but neither works correctly.  I am using arcadeVGA PCIE card.  Thanks for the help!

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

I found this site and I must have had a corrupt or unusable font.  I downloaded a new .BDF file and it works fine now. http://mameworld.info/mrdo/mame_artwork_supp.html

Thanks for asking.  The driver disc that came with the motherboard evidently didn't have the correct onboard sound drivers.  I downloaded the most recent drivers from the biostar site and it fixed it!
