WhooooHooo!
« on: July 23, 2010, 12:45:45 pm »
I am so happy I could do backflips (if I wasn't so heavy and could actually do backflips that is)

I have been bloody miserable for months. I have had terrible arthritis for what seems like ages and my job has been totally killing me. On a good day it's 2.5 hrs drive each way to my office, so I am always walking around like a zombie totally sleep deprived, never getting time to see my family or work on my arcade machine. Generally life has been a bit of a challenge.

Last Thursday I took some annual leave from work (just got back today) to try and catch up on some sleep and return to some sense of normality. I headed to the coast with my wife, kids, dogs and my father. Just before heading off I received a call to say that Deutsche-Bank wanted to offer me the job that I had been interviewed for the previous week :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

It's about 20 minutes door to door by train so no more driving (There's £200/$310 a month in diesel costs saved), there's no overtime (straight 7.5 hour days Mon - Fri) so I'll be home by 6pm every single day and it actually pays 66% more than my current job so I can actually afford to do more than simply exist.

... And the very best bit... a couple of days into my holiday and my arthritis got so much better it's amazing. I literally feel like I have been in thumbscrews for months and someone has just taken them off me. My hands aren't hurting, my hips aren't aching everything is really positive. It makes me think that there must be a connection with my job/stress/lack of sleep and my arthritis. Either way, It's the weekend, I feel fantastic and there's an arcade machine begging to be worked on in the corner of the room .. Good Times ;D

That's great news SoS  :applaud:

It sounds like you will be much better off is both financially and in gained time.

The extra time you will get with your family however is priceless, as will be the positive effect on your mental health and it sounds like your arthritis is getting better too.

So basically what you are telling us is that you have more money, more time and are in better health to work on arcade machines ;)

Congrats dude :)

Is your arthritis an autoimmune arthritis or an osteo arthritis?   Lack of sleep really plays havoc on the immune system.

So can stress, and I can't think of many better ways to get totally stressed out that sitting in a car for 5+ hours a day just to get to work. Yuck!

Glad to hear you landed somewhere that sounds a +LOT+ better!

Definitely good news.

Autoimmune. I suffer from psoriatic arthritis.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am so happy with the way things have started to pan out. I really started to reach meltdown recently what with the long days, then my joints keeping me awake at night so I prop myself up with Red-Bull so I stay awake whilst driving, which in turn stops me sleeping etc etc.....

This job is like all my Christmas and birthdays have come at once. I still can't believe it.

This is an awful thing to do.   Especially if you take medications for your arthritis.   Drinking caffeine or anything else that spikes your metabolism will also make you pee and therefore flush your system of the medications.

My wife has Rheumatoid Arthritis so we've really spent a lot of time narrowing down what triggers her flare ups.   Caffeine and lack of sleep are two really big ones.
