He he look what I just won.

Not MAME related but it kind of fits in with the vintage gaming theme.
I won it on online auction, paid $205 NZ thats about $125 US. I think it's about 20 years old. Anyone have any info on it?
Does anyone else have gambling machines in their games rooms?

I'd say that roughly doubles your chances of winning the jackpot!  Smart man!

That's a great idea!
This machine takes 20c pieces so I think I'll just set up my cab coin mech to take 20c pieces also. Perfect.

Does no one else have a machine like this? I was sure there would be a few people.

I had a crappy little bank-like slot machine. On payout all my money would pour out. Not very fun if someone else pulls the lever. My dad bought me the piece of crap.. I mean thoughtfull gift.  He bought a nice electronic one for himself, but I think it does the same thing on payout.

Well  the machine arrived yesterday and I kinda got taken a bit. You can't see in the pic but all the chrome is pitted and rusty. It needs re-chroming boo hoo dunno how much that will cost. Oh well I guess it's now a long term project to restore.

Guys, maybe I don't get it but why would you want a slot machine or pachinko machine?  The only thing that's fun about those games is the fact that you might win money.  I mean it'd be a nice novelty, for about 15 min until you realize you paid for it what you could have gotten a decent jamma game for.  ;)

And regarding making money off of your friends.... Payoff is generally about 500 bucks on the average slot.  Your friends will probably put roughly 50 cents in the dang thing.  Of course if they do hit the jackpot they'll thouroughly expect you to give them the money.

Here's my hand restored 1937 mills "bursting Cherry" 5 cent machine.

I love owning it, as it makes a excellent conversation piece, and the restoration project was very enjoyable as well.

Guys, maybe I don't get it but why would you want a slot machine or pachinko machine?  The only thing that's fun about those games is the fact that you might win money.

The allure of a Pachinko or PachiSlo (Japanese slot machine) is something that is not really understandable until you have played them for a while.  These games have a certain element of skill involved, as you have some amount of control in what happens.

In Pachinko, you can control the amount of force that the balls exit the chute with (kind of like a hi-tech, automated pinball plunger).  As you start dropping balls into the targets, lots of animation and noise begins and builds "artificial excitement" and close wins which keeps you coming back for more.  BTW, it must work, because millions of people in Japan practically live in those places and it's not to win cash.  Officially, gambling is prohibited in Japan.  But I have heard of "unofficial redemption outlets", often located in the alley next to the parlors, where balls and tokens can be traded for prizes and/or money.

With PachiSlo, you don't just start the reels spinning and hope for the best.  Each reel has a button that needs to be pressed to stop the reel where you want it.  This, of course, requires a good sense of timing, a bit of luck, and most importantly, a machine that is ready to "pay off".  If the machine is ready and you have the skill to stop the reels at the right places, you start to "win" pretty regularly (one payoff after another).  All in all, it's quite fun.  I have one that I spend a half an hour with once every couple of weeks or so.

As for a Vegas 1-arm bandit.......I think they are great conversation/nostalgia pieces, but would probably require a certan amount of imagination to be fun for any length of time for the reasons you stated.

I couldn't have said it better. I've been playing pachinko machines since I was 12.
