I'm almost done with my second cabinet, but never posted anything on the first one I did a couple of years ago.  So here's some pics, keep in mind that before this I never did any woodwork or anything like that. 

My wife bought me this:


After reading through the whole book, and seeing how easy everyone on this forum made it look, I bought joysticks, buttons and stuff from Ultimarc.


Coin door from Happ.


Modified coin mech to work with R2 coins.


Bought a 21" slimfit tv and removed the cover.


"Removed" the speakers.

Bought some MDF wood and started cutting out the sides.


Both sides done.




Control panel layout done.


Got this design somewhere on this forum I think.  Since then lots of people have been using the same one.

Checking to see if the control panel fits.

Added and connected the coin door, fitted perspex over the screen, connected the speakers and added t-edging for the sides.  Can't remember which frontend I used, but it's not nearly as good as HyperSpin FE which I'm using on my new one.  Overall it turned out ok, but I made a lot of mistakes.  I sold this one shortly after completing it, and then recently started a new one.

I've never seen a CRT that slim. That's pretty cool.

Most of the new crt tv's over here are slimfit's.

Definitely learned a lot.  I'll start a thread on my new arcade later tonight or tomorrow morning.  In my opinion you can't even compare the 2. 

lol, yes.  It went from non-existent to quite a big collection.  The tools probably ended up costing more than the whole arcade.  Luckily my wife bought me a lot of tools as well.

Add another +1 on the tv. And it sounds like you've got a very supportive wife, too.

Nice work on the cabinet! I can't tell if you've got t-molding on the cabinet in those final shots or not. By the light reflection, it seems like it. But I'm so used to seeing the classic slot-cutting shot in build threads. Are you keeping both cabinets when you finish the second one?

Yup, she's the best!   And she's the one always asking me to play games with her, instead of the other way around.

Yes, I did use t-molding.  Didn't have the correct slot cutter back then, so struggled to make it fit.  Sold this one shortly after completing it.  Too many things I wanted to do different, so decided I'll rather do another one and this time do it better.  The new one I'm definitely keeping.
