A couple of MAME performance questions

1) Which version of mame is fastest, I know it is hardware dependant, so lets say a fixed platform of pentium 4 2.4ghz, 512mb ram, nvidia 6200 graphics.  Would a nix version outperform dos, and dos outperform windows?

2) If you are using a 15khz display, arcadevga/soft15k or similar - will this have an impact on performance (on above system) as you are moving less pixels?
