Having issues with JNES Emulator in Maximus Arcade
« on: July 09, 2010, 08:54:34 pm »
Hi All,
I have downloaded the JNES emulator for the Nintendo Entertainment System on my cpu and have it working successfully however when I added it to rotation within Maximus arcade I cannot get the games to load and play.  The game list comes up in Maximus but when I click on the game title it goes to a black screen and the game doesnt load...outside of Maximus the games load and play flawlessly.  Has anyone used this emulator within Maximus and if so can anyone give me some insight on how to properly cinfigure this emulator or where my issue may lie?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

use nestopia.. it works great

*edit*

If you want to use jnes, here are some things to try

1. Check the commandline box, if there's anything there delete it
2. check "force rescan roms" in the second tab, see if that works
3. Check to make sure you setup the directories correctly, if you moved your rom folder that would cause an issue

and a question

do you get any errors? can you hear anything? what happens when you try to pick the game? (if you hear an error sound then there's an issue with executable and roms location and what you have in your maximus settings)

Thanks for the reply,  I double checked my setting in Maximus and everything is directed correctly.  When I select the nintendo emulator it shows the game list of all the roms I have but when I click on any of the games the game will not boot up...the screen just goes black with no error messages or sounds of any sort.  When I close Maximus out and open jnes by itself everything works as it should.  I will try the other emulator you suggested...perhaps Maximus isnt compatible with the latest version of jnes?  Thanks again.

Nestopia is also universally considered the best NES emulator around, as it's as close to cycle-accurate to a NES as you're going to get, plus full on customization of the entire emulator.

Thanks for the replies, I took both of your advice and downloaded the Nestopia emulator and it worked flawlessly in Maximus.   Thanks a bunch for the help!

Glad it worked! and for the record, I did have Jnes running in Maximus before, I switched because it worked best with another frontend I was trying (hyperspin). Not sure why jnes didnt' work, but oh well.

jnes is running on my cab with maximus arcade... probably an older version of jnes as I first setup my cab about a year or 2 ago.

Nestopia does look good.  Just noticed it has support for my actlabs guns, so it will be added to my cab this weekend.

Update: tried nestopia, but can't get rid of the "Loading... duckhunt.nes" being at the bottom of the screen whenever I load a game, so I'm keeping jnes.  I'll run the gun games in nestopia under "batch files" and use jnes for all the rest of my nes games.  The "loading" text is just too annoying for me.
