Pivot Pro problems "Help!!!"
« on: August 03, 2003, 11:23:49 pm »
I'm using Pivot Pro to rotate my screen on my cocktail cab. The problem is, when I launch a game some of the colors are messed up. In Frogger the logs are green. This isn't a big deal in Frogger but renders many other games unplayable. I'm using MAMEWAh as my FE. I have tried several cards ( R.9700 Pro, Rage 128 Pro PCI, R.8500 LE, and a MAtrox Parhelia. I am running a WG 19" monitor in the cab but have also had this prob with my desktop using a GF3 card on a LCD monitor. I am new to this so I'm hoping I'm just dense and this will be a quick fix. If your not running Pivot Pro I'm wondering what you guys are using to rotate your FE. I have heard ATI Radeon cards have rotation built in but I haven't seen it even on their newest cards. I have thought about running Cocktail FE but I really am partial to MAMEWAH. Also I am running XP pro if that helps.
Thanks

I got the ATI Control Panel, and the rotation feature is located in the little ATI logo in the system tray...

Exactly, it's also in the advanced settings on your display properties.

I've been told I need to post this here. I have an ATI card with the latest Catalyst and Control panel. I have checked the the toolbar and advanced tab but have not seen rotation. Even thought the drivers are the same, is it possible that this feature is only available on certain Radeon cards and not others? If so, what cards are you guys using so I can go pick one up.

Just went out and got a new 9800 pro. Installed the newest Catalyst drivers and control panel. Still no stinking rotate to be found anywhere. So my new question, those of you that do see rotation, are you guys using flat panel screens where the monitor's driver may have rotation support. If not I'm at a loss because I have checked all tabs under Settings\Advanced. Since so few have posted, how are you guys getting your FEs to rotate or does your FE stay horizontal while your games rotate im MAME?

Who out there has a vertical screen in their cab? IS your FE positioned Vertically or does it remain Horizontal and only your games are rotated with Mame? If your FE is Vertical, what FE are you using or what software or hardware are you using to rotate it? I have a new 9800 card and there is no rotation available. I have tried Pivot Pro and have the same problems as Derkrug. I really would like to find a solution so I can finish this cab and begin enjoying it.

Rotation is not supported on Win9X fllavors.......2000 and XP, Rotation is available.  98, ME, whatever...no rotation.

Same for ATI and Nvidia, who both offer native-driver rotation in their latest release drivers.

This just in. I got really frustrated today so I decided to call ATI. The tech there told me Radeon cards sold over the counter do not have rotation built in and some OEM cards do have it. Rotation is normally done through the monitors drivers or third party software. However, the good news is, he thought Catalyst version 3.0 had rotation built into it but ATI did not support that feature. I hope he is correct. I have messed around with my system so much in the last few days that I decided to reload XP into it. I'll keep you posted on what I find out when I get there

Well the ati guy must be a little confused.  All ati radeon cards support native rotation as do all drivers.  The problem is getting the feature to show up.  That's a media center issue I believe.  I dunno, I found mine off of a site (not ati) and they had rotation.

Any ideas on what site it was. I have searched and searched but I have had no luck. Rotation did not showup in any of the catalyst drivers. Pivot Pro doesn't work correctly. I really need some help here.
Thanks

K...I got sick of the Radeon business and tried a GF3 I had laying around. Talking about making the tab for rotation hard to find. Anyway, my problems may be solved but I am still interested on learning how to get rotation from a Radeon card.
Thanks

Never mind my last. GF doesn't run rotation on anything below 1024x768, my monitor only supports up to 800x600. So I am still looking to get this to work.
Thanks
