Issue with TV (Mitsubishi CT-25M5BT)
« on: July 05, 2010, 04:49:24 am »
UK Model, connected via RBG->Scart to a Radeon X1600 using Soft15Khz and Powerstrip.

This TV is working fantastically and displays almost everything I can chuck at it, even showing the 25khz+ horizontal startup stuff (albeit two images side by side) - theres just one irritating problem that I'm concerned may be an indicator of some kind of imminent failure.

It is showing a kind of horizontal banding wherever a lighter color is shown on the screen, most obvious on older titles with sprite based graphics and black backgrounds although not really obvious during daytime but very evident in low/artificial light at night.

The bands cover the width of the screen whenever they occur and as you can see from the first one at the top they also appear when the TVs own OSD is on screen (that one was taken with the scart lead disconnected and the PC off to eliminate any signal or magnetic interference issues)

Just wanted to float this one past the experts on here before I put this cabinet together (my first one) just in case its either an easy fix, fairly normal and I'm being paranoid or just means the TV is past it and I should go hunting for another.

Cheers.

PS: Apologies for the poor photos, my camera really doesn't like taking pictures of TV screens it seems  :banghead:

you may have to try turning the screen down on the flyback transformer, and turn up the brightness a little to compensate. maybe give the contrast a tweak. less is sometimes more.

if it remains, you might have a cap that's starting to go off value.

back off the contast a bit and it should clear.

if the effect is confined from mid to right side of screen ,
check the boost cap - C520 ? (sorry, pcb ref # not clear on my print  )   47Uf @250v  use 105 degree.

Combination of tweaking the flyback and contrast did the trick.

Cheers guys.  :applaud:
