Hi All,
I've just switched on my MAME cabinet for the first time in a few months and got a regular sort of electical clicking/popping sound every second or so. I took the back off and could see a bright spark every time it popped, and could smell an electrical burning smell.
The cabinet is based on a Killer Instinct upright, and has a 25" Hantarex Polo monitor in it. The details on the label are;
Hantarex Mon Polo 25" FS 220V Mod: 02193270 Ch. Fam. 63200911
I don't know much about monitors, but from the research I have done it seems likely that the line output transformer has died. The spark is coming from a smallish unit at a point near where the long cable from the back of the tube is soldered (which I gather is the high voltage wire connected at the anode cap)?
Here's a video of it if that helps...
Can anybody say if this is a likely diagnosis, or offer an alternative theory? If more info is needed feel free to ask.
And then ultimately I would like some advice on the best way forward. I want to get this up and running again if possible by next weekend, and so need to move fast.
I live in Essex in UK so need to find either a repair place or a parts supplier that can source the right part and I'll find somebody local to help install it.
Last case scenario I could get a new monitor to replace it, but thatr will of course be way more expensive. Although I do like the idea of being about to run it up at high freqencies, rather than just 15khz, which I understand is posisble in some newer multi-frequency monitors, so any advice there would be appreciated also.
Thanks,
Lozman.
