How to shrink image width?
« on: July 01, 2010, 07:16:32 am »
Hi tested my galaxian pcb with an mtc9000 monitor today. The picture is pretty good colour wise but the game screen is just too wide to fit the physical monitor. I can move the screen left and right to make the top/bottom of the game screen visible using the horizontal phase pot on the adjustment board.

So I tried to adjust the Horizontal Amp pot and it did seem to shrink the image width slightly but no way enough to display the whole game screen on the monitor.

Is there another adjustment I should make?

Maybe a fault on the adjustment board?

i measured the resistance of the pot that adjusts the Horiz Amp and it seems to be measuring low when at maximum rotation...

Am i right in thinking the higher the value of the resistance of the Horiz Amp pot the narrower the image is?

do i need to adjust the bridge coil? not sure how to do this as the core does not have anything to use a screwdriver or allen key on it. just looks like plain graphite.

this is quite old monitor so would a cap kit help fix this?

You didn't indicate how you were looking at the monitor!

:D  Okay....have you tried getting it cold and wet.  That usually works well for shrinkage.

there is a cap on the mtc9000 that causes this, been 15 years since i have worked on one but its next to the flyback transformer in the heat shield-i think its 50v 4.7uf from memory
