Kortek KTN-2001 install questions
« on: June 28, 2010, 02:08:08 pm »
I have replaced my old WG7000 series monitor with a Kortek KTN-2001.
The old WG can be seen here:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=96097.0

The WG monitor used an isolation transformer. The Kortek doesn't need an isolation transformer.
However rather than redo all this wiring I am using the old isolation transformer with the new Kortek CRT.

I have no experience in this area so I'd like to ask if using the old islolation transformer is bad or has any draw backs?
I notice it gets good and hot, but I never took notice if it got that hot with the old WG monitor.
Does the islolation transformer provide some sort of protection for the monitor? Would it be worth it to get a nice new one? (where and what spec?) The one i'm using is very old, from the 90s I guess.....

Another thing is that I do not hear this monitor make that degauss noise when I turn it on. Shouldn't I hear famous degaussing noise? Sometime during the install I had turned it on to see the picture and the top right corner had the colors messed as if a magnet was near the screen. I turned it on and off a few times and it wouldn't go away. Previously it was OK so I don't know what was causing this.

I went ahead finished putting everything together, pushed the cabinet up against the wall and when I turned it on the picture was fine..... no idea what happened there....

the gaussing was almost certainly down to a strong magnetic field in the area of the cab, once you moved it away from that it righted itself
picture looks fine

I have the same question.  Does it hurt anything to power up through an isolation transformer when monitor does not require one?
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice.....there is!!
