When you update your highscore dat - you lose all of the score that the old dat stored right!?

I am currently using the dat from mame.net on my cab and it seems outdated because I noticed several games that don't saved scored...but on the other hand I don't want to lose my current highscores.

I don't think you shoud lose your high scores-- at least that has not been my experience. The hiscore.dat file may change, but all of the *.hi files are still around and used by MAME...

APFelon is right.  The highscore.dat file is basically a list of instructions telling mame how to save your highscores - no scores are actually stored in it.

I didn't lose any highscores when I updated.
