MAMEWAH layouts not working for me
« on: August 03, 2003, 12:43:45 pm »
Ok, I installed MAMEWAH and unzipped the LAYOUTS.ZIP file.
Everything works great.
I see a MrSalty layout I want to use, so I unzip it into its own layout directory.

The layout works (all the text and box positions are fine), but the background image does not show up (I just see a grey background).

I have used the MAMEWAH layout designer, and modified the CFG file and changed the llayout name from within the MAMEWAH options menus. All three of these cause the layout to work, with no background image showing.

As an aside, no layout I have tried has a functioning background image.

What am I doing wrong?

go to the layout designer... open the .lay file... go background->image and select your image. then file-> save. that should do the trick

Did that too.
Everything looks fine in the designer.
The lay file is pointing to the right graphics, but I still have no background.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling MAMEWAH, too.

Perhaps you can explain the entire procedure to me as you would a small child.
Apparently, it has been a rough day for me ;)

Running Windows XP.
MAMEWAH .0954b
MAME .062b

You need to make sure the background image file is called "emu1-main.xxx" if using multiple emulators or "layout-main.xxx" if only using one emulator.  If the skin you're trying to use was made for an earlier version of Mamewah (before .0953) the image filename will need to be changed.

Rather then start a new thread I figured I'll just add to this one since I'm having the same problem.

In Mamewah_v161 I created a layout with the included Layout Designer & everything looks great. I saved it inside: mamewah_v161 > layouts > _Downloaded Layouts > & finally inside "myfolder". When I open up mamewah the layout is just as I designed it but my background image isn't there for the main screen or the options menu (haven't seen the message window but I'm guessing the background image won't be there either).

The only emulator I'm using is mame095b_i686 under Windows XP so here's the names of the jpegs used in my layout: layout-main (same 800x600 resolution specified in the mamewah ini), mame-options & mame-message. When I use Mamewah Config I can choose it there but I don't see a preview pic like others  which were downloaded from the web.

Any ideas why the background images aren't showing up?

I just tried moving the folder with my layout & images out of the "_Downloaded Layouts" folder & have them in the "Layouts" folder with all the default mamewah layout folders. I opened up mamewah's Layout Designer again & pointed all the background images to their new location then opened Mamewah Config & corrected my layout folder's new location. When I opened mamewah again my layout is fine but still without any background images.

I also renamed the jpegs as such: art, main, message & options. They're all residing with my layout file called "tron-800". Oh, & my art file never seems to show up in one of the artwork windows when say a cabinet picture isn't available for a highlighted game. It's always the default mamewah logo which appears.
