  • Yes Dear, one more game of Mr. Do ...
Soul Calibur II GameCube
« on: August 03, 2003, 10:20:17 am »
Greetings,
August is going to be an expensive month.  VF4:Evolution,
Two Towers DVD and Soul Calibur II - - Ding ! that's the problem.  I played the demo at Sam's Club on a GameCube.
Issues:
(My comparison comes from DC and SCI)
SCII small characters, pretty fast, graphics ?  is this new hardware ?  my DC SoulCalibur looks just as good.
The GameCube seems nice but the button layout for fighters is a mystery.  I am not impressed.

Anybody played this game on the PS/2 JAP import ?  Your opinion please ?  I could be wrong.
Thanks,
Tom

I haven't played that particular game, but I absolutely love the Gamecube controllers.  I have never had a gamepad on any other system that even closely compares to the ergonomics and controls layout.  That is, of course, my own opinion and I have small hands.  I've heard complaints from the six foot tall and up people about the controller being made for small hands.

Aside from being about a million times more comfortable the Gamecube's button and stick layout is essentially identical to the Dreamcast layout so I can't imagine there being a problem with Soul Caliber.

Well you need a stick to play it properly. The pad is out of the question.

I'm pretty dissapointed with SC2. My friends and I played it alot in the arcade and it doesn't shape up to SC1. Parrying is way too easy, like in DOA3. The timing is still really loose and out of the tons of moves most are redundant.

I just think VF4: Evo really upped the ante with regards to 3d fighters and SC2 is something of a step backwards. It feels like SC 1.5 and I don't like the .5 they've added.

yea, i actually thought that there was no step up in grafx from the dc version. as for gameplay, it just felt wrong. it was too much of the same thing that i had masterd on sc1. i do like vf4 but my fav fighter is still Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

Thanks guys, that's gonna save me some money.
Note on the GC controller - I agree very comfortable, but the layout needs a bit of play time to get samiliar.
6'4" 220lbs Ding. ;)  I still like the DC controller.
I am going to try MK:DA.  EBgames has it used for $29.99  that might be a steal. Still dissappointed with SC2, and very excited for VF4:Evo.

I've got PAL Evo for the last month and believe me, you won't have time for DA.

Have you got SF3: Third Strike for the DC? That's my other poison.
