Is this a good price ?
« on: June 28, 2010, 11:22:47 pm »
I'm looking at a Terminator 2 arcade with the dual guns going for $400 only seen a picture and talked with the owner who says it works (in an arcade right now). Interested to know if I check it out and all looks well if this is a good price on this machine. I did a quick search and it is the lowest price I can come up with. Thoughts?

Seems reasonable to me also. Try posting this question on the KLOV forums too. Got lots of knowledgeable peeps over there. Probably run into someone who actually knows the machine.

Depends on how well maintained it was. Gun games are notorious for going wonky, and if you can;t aim right, the game is unplayable. There's also the condition of the monitor to consider. I think $400 is high unless it's in pristine condition.
NO MORE!!

what he said. $400 is pretty much the upper limits on what I'd pay for that. Now I dont need the cab inpristine shape, but the guns and monitor need to be at minimum, in VERY GOOD shape

Thanks for the replies everyone! Going to check out on KLOV, and other than craigslist/ebay any other good sites to look around for older arcade systems?

I think $400 is good for a relatively intact and working T2 machine. I don't think it has to be pristine but the cabinet should be solid, the guns working, the monitor still going strong, and the side art in at least "good" condition

I just picked up a T2 machine that's stuck in diagnostic mode for $120. Cab has definitely seen some use in an arcade. I'm going to clean up all the grime/cobwebs and start working on the wiring harness so i can get it out of diagnostic mode (start buttons aren't connected right for one so that'll probably get it out of diagnostic mode  :P). The side art is in good shape except for where the mdf was chipped along some of the edges. I'll probably try and bondo it and color match the paint to the side art (i'm hoping to save it rather than spend for some reproduction or NOS stuff). It also needs some touch up paint on the black parts and new t-molding.

This will definitely be a labor of love for me since this particular cab is in my top 5 must own arcade games list.

Most common failures to check out that I have seen -

Power distribution board (gun recoils and such)

The gun recoil....coils go bad.

And most importantly are the bushings for the main shaft on the guns. If the bushings are worn too bad when you pullback and forth and swing from left to right the gears will have too much slop in them and actually jump teeth on the potentiometer, physically throwing the gun calibration off immediately. Requires a complete gun tear down and replacemnt bushings to fix. You can unlatch and flip the control panel over to observe the gears while working the gun around to see how bad they are.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.
