Video scrambled in Windows, fine during boot up
« on: June 21, 2010, 10:57:44 pm »
When I boot up my pc while connected to a crt tv via component video out from an nVidia 7900gs, the bios and Windows loading screen appear normal. However, once it hits the desktop the video goes scrambled. I've tried changing refresh rates and resolutions to no avail.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? My only thought is that he power supply may underpowered for the card, so once the card begins rendering the desktop, the power supply struggles to supply it enough juice thus making the card fail.

Any thoughts?

edit: Just tried a different power supply with the same results.

Do you have the latest (and "greatest") drivers for your video card?

Try booting up in Safe Mode, and see if the issue is still present there.

I've tried changing refresh rates and resolutions to no avail.

To what combo's though? It's been a while since I've used TV out, but I think you have to go at 640x480 max. Perhaps also try adjusting your color depth?

I'm running it at 640x480 and it works in safe mode just fine. I also uninstalled the drivers and it works fine also, but I would like to have the drivers installed. I guess I'll try an older set of drivers.

At least it's not hardware related.  ;)

Just installed the oldest drivers for that card listed on the nVidia site and it works perfectly.

nVidia always releases some pretty sketchy drivers. I really don't know why they don't do a little more testing on them before releasing them. Anyways, good on ya for getting it working
