Weird "cottage classics" from Sega Gameworks

Took snapshots of these, since they are such oddities. Sticker on the back said they were made in California and were property of Sega Gameworks. I'm not sure how or why they ended up in Toronto.









As is obvious, they don't have original art, marquees or anything, and the monitors looked bigger than 19".  There was a Centipede as well, which had correct control panel art.

One has those weird knobs but the other does not. I've never been to one, but the website hints at a thematic location. Racing, etc.

Perhaps these were meant to be part of a discarded theme, ala Chucke Cheese? I recall Chucke Cheese had one restaurant that was supposed to sport all oak cabinets.

They could have been pretty nice. The proportions are all messed up, though.

Those wooden clavos on the sides are interesting, but they're too big.

They look like they're in good shape though...

Definitely a peculiarity!

Sega Gameworks are essentially your family fun center on steroids. In the dusty old corner that no one goes in they put together machines with classics in them like these 2. When in one in Vegas, half of the classics weren't on, the others were dirty but this is there way of keeping classics in their arcades.

We have a Gameworks here in Tempe, AZ.  There are about 10 of those machines, with classics like Dig-Dug, Frogger, Tron, etc...

Saw one in Miami Florida. Played Frogger. It had an 8 way joystick and was terrible.

They have 29" monitors in them.

Those things are the ugliest things I've ever seen. Even worse than the Wimi cabs....
