Sega Racing Classic Facebook Petition Group
« on: June 21, 2010, 01:15:00 pm »
Yes, I know it's a long shot, but since Sega is now porting possibly 18-24 Dreamcast titles to XBLA and PSN, I thought it was worth a shot.  Basically, Sega re-released Daytona USA as 'Sega Racing Classic' to arcades with higher resolution on newer machines.  I started a group on Facebook to see just how many people would join it to say 'Yes, I want Sega Racing Classic on XBLA/PSN'.

So if you're interested, join up and maybe Sega will take notice? :)

Is it me, or does it look like it's choppy? ugh one of the nice things about Daytona is the constant 60fps no matter how many cars were onscreen. With 17 years of technology ahead, Sega shows something that drops the framerate? WTF Sega?

Every shot I've seen of the game being played is filmed in like a cellphone or camcorder in shakeycam vision, unless Sega has released direct feed video that I don't know about I think it'd be unreasonable to say it's choppy because you don't really know.

And with the hardware in use and the utterly simple graphics, I figure that rig could probably dump out 240fps. :P

I'd say that there have only been maybe three attempts to port the game to home.  The first being the Sega Saturn port, which since it was a much weaker system than teh Model 2 was more of a 'recreation' than a 'port'.  That had Framerate issues so AM2 themselves built a SECOND Saturn port with higher framerate.  There was also PC port but it's basically a port of the Saturn version to Windows and little else.

The next attempt of course is on Dreamcast, which was very pretty but the physics model was totally changed.  Now however we live in a day where arcade ports get fairly straight forward ports now.  AM2 team members handled the port of After Burner Climax to PS3 and Xbox 360 and it's great.  It feels about dead on to the arcade except that the attract mode has been shortened.  I think that Sega Racing Classic could be ported to home consoles with minimal changes.  Especially as more than minimal changes would cost more money. :)

But the Saturn versions did use the arcade music, except they were resynthesized in the studio and recorded as redbook CD audio rather than the arcade hardware resynthesizing the music itself.  But the songs were eventually the same. o.O

Maybe because Daytona USA in the arcades didn't have recorded vocals? :P  Though it's impressive that they synthasized Mitsuyoshi's voice for the vocals on the Model 2.
