Monitor Issues with Metal Cabs (Aero City)
« on: June 17, 2010, 01:29:00 am »
Hey guys... was going to start putting together a single slot MVS system in a Sega Aero City and was just talking with someone earlier today about it. He was telling me about issues he's had with Metal Cabinets in the past. Like I said, I have a Sega Aero Cabinet and was going to start installing a new Monitor in it when he sent me an email stating:

I've worked on those metal framed cabs and had issues with signal interference...something about the game boards and wiring meant for those cabs are specific (speaker magnets and the metal cabinet have caused the monitor to go red).

Has anyone heard of issues like this? Or would it just be a mistake in the wiring job? I'm curious as it's the first time I've ever worked on a Metal Cab of any kind myself, so I'd like some advice before I get started.

Thanks

if you had unshielded speakers near any crt then you will get gaussing issues.
I have worked on lots of candy cabs and never had any issues stated in that message

I have a candy cab with stereo speakers (Capcom Impress), I swap boards and wiring in and out of it all the time (and sometimes a Dreamcast) and I've never had any issues with the monitor.

I appreciate the quick replies.  I'm going to continue to do some light research regarding Metal Cabs and Monitors, but at least I feel a lot more comfortable moving forward.  If anyone else has anything else to add or be careful of, I'd appreciate your help.

Thanks

I have a Sega Astrocity cab ... but it is not metal! It is some kind of tough fiberglass composite or something. I have even drilled into it so I am certain that it is not metal ....
Check out my completed projects!
