Stern Amidar Marquee / Half-toning help
« on: June 16, 2010, 06:36:13 pm »
HI Guys!

been a long time since I was here, but liek a bad penny, I'm back and looking for feedback or input - perhaps a joint project... Who knows.

Anyhow, I' working on Stern's Amidar marquee and heres my current 5 hours progress:

Yes, I know things arent straight, the mustached painter and funky monkey arent done yet an still some way to go - but I'm coming at you guys over a different matter... Half-toning...

Yes, this marquee uses a massive amount of half-toning and whilst Cs3 has a too (Effects->Pixelate->Colour Halftone) andindeed perhaps the previous example looks acceptiable... Check out a 1:1 with the scan:

Hardly an exact version... But a good effort....

So what Im basically asking - is there anyone out there far more experienced than me with half-toning that would be able to co-work with me to nail half-toning? I'm happy to carry on vectring and tidying and then hoping I dont have to "make do" with the only way I know how to do it...

Cheers Rav

if thats your ai version on the left thats actually pretty good.
the thing about halftoning is its generated in the film posistive stage for the screenprinting
and NOT in the artwork itself the dots are generated from shades of grey and LPI (dot size)

for inkjetting all you can really do is simualte the patterns like you did.
