Big Screen Arcade
« on: June 14, 2010, 05:16:55 pm »
Hey all,

Thinking of upgrading my arcade machine.  A few years ago I ran into a Tekken 4 arcade with a big screen.  The controls were set back a few feet on a podium.  I have an old 50 inch DLP not doing anything at the moment and thought it would be great to hook that baby up.  Looking for plans on a large screen arcade cab, something like this:

Anyone here build one of these?  I'd mod my cab but I'm not cutting apart a Street Fighter 2 Dynamo.  Any help appreciated.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

As long as you got the space for something like this and able to put some distance between the player and the screen then why not.  I started a showcase cabinet myself cause I had an extra 27" Panasonic CRT flat screen TV and maybe one day I will complete it :)  I don't suppose your DLP has HDMI does it?

It's a sammy, 2 hdmi, 2 component, 2 s-vid and 1 pc port.  Can go up to 720p.  Thought it would be good as a monitor, but it only goes up to 1024x768.  Still enough for mame.

HDMI is perfect, it should take care of video and sound in one cable unless you plan on using a 2.1 or 5.1 speaker setup.

Gametrek's badboy is badass.  Hopefully, mine will look one quarter as good.  The distance between the monitor and controls may have to be a bit farther, we are talking 50 inch screen.  Come to think of it, I have an old surround sound system I could throw into it.  More I think about it, the more this looks like a completely new project.
