U360 Question
« on: June 14, 2010, 11:55:55 am »
Do you need to go into the U360 mapping program each time you want to change the mode from 4-way, 4-way Qbert, 8-way, etc.?   I am thinking of using these joysticks for a kids cabinet and I don't want them to have to do any adjustments to the settings.

No, once you have loaded the maps into MAME, it will do it without touching the config at all. I've only set a map for q-bert so far but it works perfectly. Mame does a good job with the analogue U360 map for 4/8way etc.
Hey Dudes thanks, for rescuing me, lets go for a burger.... HA! HA! HA! HA!

Would this type of Joystick be good for a Cab that was running both old school 4-way games and something from say N64?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Definitely. It can switch from 4-way to analog.

Where's the best place to buy one of these for a decent price?  How much different are they to wire?

In the US, buy it through divemaster127 (www.arcadeemulator.net) - you'll save on shipping.
If not, buy it from www.ultimarc.com

Wiring is super simple. It hooks up via USB. You can also add up to eight buttons via the built-in encoder.

Add the medium spring and circular restrictor for the best stick possible. (Also, try the longer shaft for installing in wood)

Thank you.

EDIT:  Is this the same as the U360?

No. There is an Ultimarc section on that site.

You can also use a front end with a U360 plugin to load custom maps for the stick.  Personally I use GameEx and it works great, I believe Mala also has a plugin.

I like the stock, lighter spring myself.
