u360 custom map help (mala, mame, ledblinky)
« on: June 06, 2010, 11:37:07 pm »
Noob question here.

I've figured this out once but I don't remember how I did it.

I'm using mala and ledblinky along with a pair of u360's. I want to be able to load maps based off of the original game (ie 8 way for street fighter). I remember making a custom 8-way map with a larger dead area to make moves easier to pull off but I don't remember what I did to create it.

So what do I need to do to make this happen?

Are you using ultra map software? You can also use the maps built in to Mame. There was a lenghty thread on this not long ago. I'll link if I can find it.

I have installed but it doesn't recognize my u360's (windows, mame, mala, all see them fine though). I was under the impression the led blinky was the one handling the maps.

This is the thread I was thinking of:

You are probably using LEDBlinky now.  Might be easier to switch to MAME only if that is the only emulator you use.

Good info in that thread either way.

Using the Ultramap app - load the 8-way map and modify the dead zone. Then copy the newly modified .um file (should be in the \UltraMap\Maps folder) to the \LEDBlinky\jdr\UltraStik folder and save the file as Joy8Way.um (overwrite the existing file).
Robots will kill you.

That's what I did but it doesn't seem like the u360 is picking it up.

Even weirder is that my player two u360 seems to be working just fine.

Is there a way to test which map each joystick is using?

Control Panel --> Game Controllers --> Properties
Move the stick around to visually check which map is loaded.

It turns out that my u360 had some screws loose and the magnetic disk was hitting some screw heads. I fixed that but then it turns out that my player 1 sticks magnetic disk is magnetically unbalanced (if you rotate the disk and not the shaft, the cross hair does not stay centered, especially compared to player 2).

Which now makes sense because player 2 was working fine and player 1 always needs re-calibrating.
