Windows horror story.

Recently my computer started acting funny, i knew there was a few viruses hanging out because my anti virus would go off every now and then so i decided to whip out my system restore disks and start fresh again.  Well i have 2 hard drives, one for windows and my other one for downloads and such.  I boot up my system restore disk and let it work its magic.  Well when vista starts up for the first time i started thinking "why is my windows drive have so much space and my other drive so little?".  Vista decided to format and partition my download drive and install itself there, and i screamed FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Funny thing is is that i have 2 external drives with plenty of space but i got really big headed and thought, oh nothing is gonna happen to my computer.  Oh well ship happens i guess.

I blame this on user error. Next time you do an install, pay attention to the drive letter. Personally, I go so far as to disconnect all drives except for the primary one, just to make it impossible for me to make a mistake like that.

I've tried a lot of different operating systems in my time and I've never seen one that will install itself to the right hard drive after you tell it to wipe the wrong one.

+1 to this.

I've done a few hundred installs ( Maybe thousand :S ) all always disconnect anything that is not completely necessary. Stops anything unfortunate like missing which drive letter it is installing to from being a problem.

well i agree i should have disconnected my drive, but when i fire up my restore disk it doesnt give me an option to install anyware, all it says is to press next to begin the system restore.  I always watch out were windows is gonna install, but this is a restore disk not an actual windows oem disk.

Ah too be fair I have seen oem restore disks to all sorts of annoying things. Best use for them is a Frisbee :)

Also, this is most likely a PEBKAC or PICNIC error.

In all of the various computer systems I have used (half of which are not x86) I have never had a major problem. Those pesky PEBKAC's and PICNIC's can happen tho, just usually not to me. (I may have jinxed myself tho)

Anyway, Tiny7 or TinyXP...

PEBKAC = Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair
PICNIC = Problem in Chair, Not in Computer

You use them alot when you work in IT :) - Another is 1D-10T Error
