Hyperspin 911
« on: May 29, 2010, 05:42:13 pm »
Hi everybody,

I've started my journey in the endless, but o-so frustrating, world of Hyperspin. I got my MAME romset working (left the movies/themes alone for now), and now started playing with Nestopia.

I got myself a romset and tried it out in Nestopia itself to make sure the roms were good. They all worked like a charm, so no issues so far. I then followed the tutorial on the HS site (God save my soul when I start working on emu's that don't have a tutorial there).

Now here's where I started to bump into problems... I followed all steps and got the emulator installed just fine (I think), but I got an issue with the ROMS. The HS tutorial notes that all my roms should be no-intro... It's a rompack I downloaded and I don't know what is meant with "no-intro". To fix this issue the site refers to "DATS" or a rom managing program. It doesn't explain either one of those options any further though, so I'm still unsure what is ment with all the above and what I'm supposed to do. I've been looking around and I do find a bunch of sites that provide "DATS" or no-intro ROMS, but I want a whole set and I'm not going to download rom per rom.

Anybody who could give me some insight in the whole matter or, better yet, provide me with a step by step list of what to do and how to prevent such problems from happening.

A million thanks!

just forget about it, use the roms and stop messing with somenthing ealse and focus on hyperspin. Use hq to tell hyperspin where your mame and rom paths are, get some themes and start using hyperspin, its not that hard ....

First off, I think if you are going to get into the rom scene you should know what rom sets you have and how to audit your rom sets.  You should learn how to audit your sets using CLRMamePro.  At first CMP is quite daunting and a pain in the ass, but once you know how to use it then your emulation life becomes much easier.  I started updating my own MAME rom sets instead of just downloading new sets with each release or connecting to a full torrent with each update.  I forced myself to sit down and learn how to use CMP to manage my rom collections. In doing so I now just download update sets and audit/merge thme into my existing rom sets now.  This has made my MAME and emulation life sooo much easier and I highly recommend learning to use CMP no matter what front end you use.

We've posted a great tutorial on using CMP on the HyperSpin site.  This will show how to re-name rom sets to the no-intro naming convention.  Once your romsets are named using the no-intro naming convention then setting up HyperSpin is a breeze.  I can have have a full set of HyperSpin up and running in just a matter of minutes.

FYI - MAME does NOT use the no-intro naming convention and uses it's own system.  HyperSpin uses the MAME system for MAME.

Thanks a bunch for the information. I've been messing around with CLRMamePro for some time, but as you said, it's a  to get it to do what you want it to. I didn't see you had a tutorial on that though, totally forgot to check! (I would also like to congratulate you on the unmatched customer support and tutorial page, helped out a lot already!)

I'm going to look into that today and I'll let you know how it worked out

Thnx again!
