Hi, I just inherited a JAMMA setup from a friend that was going to get binned if I didn't save it: I'm fairly new to all this but I've got most things working nicely. I found an old PC that I MAME'd up and I've even got a JAMMA board (ParodiusDA) for a more authentic experience. I had to rollback MAME to 0.84 as my PC (800mhz Athalon) was too slow for the newest MAME, but that's all happy and Mala'd up, and the JPAC connecter made the rest a breeze.
Most stuff is going well, but there are a few oddities. The brightness pot seems a bit wonky/dirty, and if it gets nudged it goes bezerk and the colours all bloom out- it's not a cold joint as I resoldered it, but can't find a replacement with same footprint.
The main problem though is that at 640x480, I get really nasty retrace lines - not at lower res. Is this because the Hantarex polo isn't supposed to be used at this rez?
Second thing - probably more of a MAME issue is that most games are fine, but the vertical shooters (DoDonPatchi etc) get vertically squashed, and I think they're being run at a weird rez. The aspect ratio is fine: it's just about 2/3 or less of the vertical size it could be. I couldn't see any good answers about how to deal with this; what resolution should MAME request when running a 240x320 vertical game with the usual settings for an arcade monitor (nohwstretch, switchres etc).
Any help, gratefully recieved.
