painting glass?

so theres a big sheet of glass on my cab that goes over the monitor. obviously the monitor is smaller so i have to black out the sides. i was going to mask off the square in the middle for the screen to show throigh and then hit back side with black spray paint. any suggestions?

Clean the glass well first 

Should work fine. I did the same a few years ago and it has held up perfectly:

What i plan on doing is cutting a piece of black card the same size as the glass with a screen-sized square in the middle then glue/stick my bezel to that and put it right behind the glass

ohh wow that turned out great, i was afraid to try anything metallic like that. welppp, i work at an auto supply store so i'll definatly be investing in more body and paint supplies. thanks for the inspriation

Yes, exactly...that's pin striping. Here's an in-construction close up pic. You can see I did the striping in order to tie in somewhat with the background of the marquee:

I just wanted to throw in my two cents...

I painted a plexiglass marquee in a similar manner. I masked off the inside section with Painter's Tape, and sprayed the outside. While the paint looked fine, the painter's tape did not create a clean edge, and I had a few moments of panic and swearing. In the end, I used ammonium (nail-polish remover) and some Q-Tips to clean up the edge and it now looks good. Just keep this in mind when you are masking, and try to make sure the paint won't get under the tape.

I believe you mean acetone?

The trick to the tape is to remove it almost immediately. If the paint sets for too long, the edge gets ragged and in some cases the paint can pull away with the tape. Of course everyone's paint/environment/timing is different, so the usual YMMV caveat applies.

go to an auto parts store and get some duplicolor body paint in a spray can. that stuff is amazing. i used to use it on my model cars i made and i just tried black on my mame. it turned out perfect. i dont have a camera to capture the perfectness though
