Powering arcade monitor without gameboard or Jpac?
« on: May 16, 2010, 06:12:22 pm »
I just took the PCBs out of my TMNT cab (its actually a dual Jamma with that and Simpsons) I'm in the US, I have a WG model #25K7131 (or "K7000"?)

I'm putting in a PC with IPAC4 and ArcadeVGA3000 but I'm no electrician and dont wanna harm anything. I heard you cant just take out the boards and expect the monitor/coin door/marquee to be powered safely. A lot of the people that turn up in my searches are using JPAC's, but I didnt think I needed one...

I've got more pics here. Having some trouble determining whats what in the bottom of my cab...

the monitor and marquee use a separate 120 volt power source you should be good there. that monitor must be run through the isolation transformer (big heavy cube in the bottom of the cabinet.) don't remove it or try to bypass it or you will fry the monitor.

as for the coin door, the voltage for the light comes from the board/power supply itself. you will have to supply that, either from the computer power supply or a separate unit. it's a low voltage, probably 12 or 5 volts. and easily powered from the computer.

I found this handy AC flow chart for my cab in the TMNT manual:

Even the wiring colors were faithful to the chart so identifying stuff was mostly easy. With a bunch of reading and google image search I was able to mostly identify the power elements in the bottom of my cab:

The grey rectangle thing is the 'power supply', the thing that will burn out if run without boards (um, right guys?). I've removed the boards already and saw that I could just disconnect the molex running AC into the power supply. The only other thing coming 'out' after the power supply is that fuse beneath it. I think even the coin door lights might be powered off the AC. No other wiring has been tampered with other than PCB/CP/speaker wiring removal. (The monitor and marquee wiring thru the 'isolation transformer' is the same. Altho I've yet to locate the 'rear door interlock')

So, can I safely turn on my cab power switch now? I'm dying to test my PC/arcadeVGA!
